Caspian Sea yogurt, also known as "matsoni" or "Caucasian yogurt," is a traditional fermented dairy product with a rich history dating back centuries. This creamy, tangy yoghurt originates from the Caucasus region near the Caspian Sea.

Caspian Sea yogurt, is mesophilic, a type of fermented dairy product that cultures at room temperature. This makes it incredibly easy to prepare at home without special equipment.

Caspian Sea Yogurt contains cheese cultures which make it mild in taste with just a touch of tartness, usually made with dairy milk. It has thinner consistency compared to the Bulgarian, Greek and Skyr.  Containing live active lactic acid cultures of Lactobacillus Bulgaricus and Streptococcus Thermophilus, Lactococcus Lactis, Lactococcus Cremoris.
This is a heirloom Caspian Sea Yogurt starter is made with live active bacteria, which means that you can reuse yoghurt from your previous batch to make more for as long as you like.

Our authentic Caspian Sea yogurt starter culture allows you to easily make this delicious yogurt at home. Simply add the culture to milk, let it ferment, and enjoy your own homemade Caspian Sea yogurt within 24 hours.
The cultures are very robust and can survive at room temperature, for an extended time. It is advised that they be kept in the freezer to extend the life of the cultures.
There is a small amount of dried organic skim milk powder present. When making non-dairy yoghurt, all the milk powder from the starter is completely consumed by the bacteria during fermentation. The yoghurt you make will be lactose free.
